Job Description: Field Organizer

Location: Navajo Nation, Arizona

Position Type: Full-time or Part-time, Contracted

Compensation: Full-time (40hrs per week), salaried at $3000 per month. Mileage reimbursement of $0.58/mile provided for any required travel using a personal vehicle


Description: The Rural Utah Project (RUP) is a non-partisan non-profit organization working to increase voter engagement and participation in a number of southern Utah counties and on the Navajo Nation in Utah and Arizona. Through voter registration drives and a non-partisan Get Out the Vote effort, RUP hopes to increase the number of active voters in areas that have historically been overlooked. RUP seeks individuals interested in aiding these efforts in the Arizona portion of the Navajo Nation as a Voter Registration Organizer.


Responsibilities:

  • Collect new and updated voter registration forms for voters on Indigenous lands in Arizona in Apache, Navajo, and Coconino counties

  • Plan and execute events centered around informing voters about the electoral process and breaking down barriers to voting participation

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for phone banking and text banking efforts as directed by RUP’s Field Director

  • Register and inform voters at community events and chapter meetings

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and in team settings

  • Passion for increasing local civic participation and voter turnout

  • Excellent personal, verbal, and written communication skills, comfort with public speaking

  • Drivers license and access to transportation

  • Ability to work irregular hours as needed, including occasional nights and weekends

  • Familiarity with the Navajo Nation

  • Conversational fluency in Navajo language a plus


This position is through November 2020. Independent Contractors will provide their own work equipment, and RUP will not pay for relocation expenses. Independent Contractors are responsible for paying all of their taxes, receive no benefits, and are not covered under any workers compensation program. Reasonable work-related expenses, such as travel and materials, will be reimbursed.
